Publications

Regarding the ITS-Davis publications database and its use.

ITS-Davis currently manages a publications database of over 1,500 entries. The work in this database represents a collection of materials from faculty and students, spanning the Institute's seventeen year history, plus a wide collection of other publications by ITS-Davis affiliates. The database may be view here.


Finding Publications

To find a required publication, there are several options available. The easiest option, on the left-hand navigation bar, is a "quick browse" section that displays the publications of a selected year. Other search options require more user input in order to find a specific entry, or groups of specific entries. These options are outlined here:

  • Author: This provides specific search by author. It is an "auto-complete" feature, meaning that as you begin to type an author's name possible suggestions are provided.
  • Title: Here you can search by specific titles by placing the title in quotation marks (ex. "Fuel Economy: What Drives Consumer Choice?") or by placing keywords in this field without quotes to find a broader subject (ex. hydrogen)
  • Abstract Keywords: This provides basic search of keywords from the "abstract," or introduction, of each publication. However, many publications in the database are not provided with abstract keywords and this feature may not return the full host of publications for a given keyword.
  • Downloadable Publications Only: This checkbox enables searching only through publications that are available for download to the general public. Due to copyright restrictions, not all publications are available for download, but all do provide basic information, including citation information and "abstract" summaries.
  • Program: The program drop-down allows for specific searching through publications within a specific department of ITS-Davis. This field is not required to perform a search.
  • Year: The year field allows users to search for publications by specific year, or to limit overall search results to a specific year.
  • Sort By: This selection provides the user with the ability to return results either alphabetically by author name or chronologically by year.
These fields may be used in any combination and are not all required to return valid search results. The search options are provided to ensure that the user may quickly and accurately find the desired publication or group of publications required.

Ordering a Publication

Many publications are available for download in PDF format; others may be ordered directly from ITS-Davis. To request a publication please compete the publications order form. The form can be faxed to (530) 752-6572 or emailed.

Adding a Publication to the Database

To add a publication to the ITS-Davis database, please email your work in pdf format or provide a link for a downloadable copy of your work to Katie Rustad, the publications coordinator. Be sure to include the following information: who you are, your affiliation with ITS-Davis, and proper citation for the work. If there are copyright restrictions on your work, but you would still like basic information listed in the database, please make note of this in your email.
