Computing Information for Visitors and Students
Campus Computing Account
http://iet.ucdavis.edu/computing/computing_accounts_summary.cfm
One of the first things to do when arriving at UC Davis is to open a campus computing account. For a graduate student the main benefit of the account will be email and remote access. This is a relatively simple process that should only take a few minutes. Go to IT Express, located in room 182 of Shields Library (turn right inside the main entrance and go a few doors down) and bring a photo ID with you.
Guest faculty and staff, visiting scholars and others may receive temporary computing privileges when deemed necessary by an affiliated University of California, Davis department. Temporary accounts are created using the (TAF) form, must be sponsored by a University of California, Davis faculty or staff, and can be active for up to a maximum of one (1) year, or until the owner's affiliation with UC Davis ends, whichever comes first. Renewal of this account is required for continuation of services beyond one year. The link to the (TAF) Form:

ITS Facilities
ITS provides computing facilities for graduate students affiliated with the Institute of Transportation Studies. Because the labs are open and available to students around the clock, seven days a week, we need your help to keep these facilities safe, clean and working properly. To gain access to offices with shared general purpose computers, you will need to get a key. Please fill out the attached Usage Agreement form and bring it to Ning Wan, 2103 Academic Surge. Ning will direct you to Roberta Devine to get the key. Ning will be available to answer questions between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. M-F the first two weeks of the quarter. If you can't make it during those times, call or e-mail to make sure she is in her office. Email: nwan@ucdavis.edu
2359 Academic Surge
The Institute maintains 2359 Academic Surge as a graduate computer facility. We currently have four Windows XP systems. These systems are connected to a color LaserJet printer (located in main office 2028) and one black LaserJet printer. This room also houses a color scanner.
Software installed in lab:
Windows XP
Sophos
MS Office 2003
EndNote
SPSS (2 computers)
Adobe Acrobat Reader
If you need to install special software for your work on any lab computers, please contact Ning.
Important Rules for Lab Use:
1) Do not give out the key and access to anyone outside the department.
2) Let us know if anyone other than ITS graduate students or authorized undergraduate students are using the facilities.
3) Report any problems to nwan@ucdavis.edu.
4) Help by picking up after yourself; throw paper in recycle bins, trash in the garbage, keep paper stocked, and toner in printers. (I know this is basically good workplace manners we should all know, but you would be surprised by the number of coffee cups and papers left around).
5) If you want to leave files in the lab, do so at your own risk. Please back up your data files.
Because many people use the computers in the labs, please backup your data files.
Equipment for Students to Check Out

Graduate Offices
All graduate offices have at least one Ethernet connection to the campus network/ Internet. If you have a desktop or laptop computer that you would like to connect to the ITS network, please contact Ning to get started.
